This sample demonstrates how ABBYY FineReader Engine can be used for business card recognition.

  • Business card recognition technology is accessible via a new API in FineReader Engine 11 (Win - Linux - OS X).
  • It offers special pre-processing features and access to the extracted data.
  • Business card recognition supports 27 recognition languages.

The sample splits multiple business cards scanned on one page if necessary, recognizes each business card, and displays recognized data. You can view recognized contacts in the default mail application.

To view how it works:

  1. Select a scanned image of business card or several business cards.
  2. Select the language of your business cards.
  3. FineReader Engine detects automatically the number of business cards on the image. However, if you are going to recognize only separate business cards, you can deselect Detect multiple business cards option. In this case FineReader Engine will presume that there is only one business card on an image.
  4. Click Start Recognition.
  5. If you want to view recognized data in the default mail application, click View Card in Contacts. The recognized business card will be saved in VCF format and displayed in the application. Here you can edit recognized data, if necessary.

The sample uses a procedure for processing described in the Recognizing Business Cards section of the Developer's Help.
