Windows 10 & ABBYY SDKs

Microsoft released Windows 10 step by step:

  • Consumer release on July 29, 2015
  • Enterprise / volume licensing release to on August 1, 2015.
    (more on Windows_10).

This article gives an overview about the Windows 10 compatibility of ABBYY SDKs.

FineReader Engine

  • Version 9.x
    • The FineReader Engine 9.0 product line is still under support for customers with a maintenance contract.
ABBYY will provide support for custom applications only up to Windows 8.1.

    • ABBYY will not develop/roll out a FineReader Engine 9 version that will support Windows 10.
Reason: Version 9.0 was released in October 2008 and, therefore, older than the regular maintenance cycle of 5 years

    • Customers with a valid Software Maintenance can/should update to the latest technology of FineReader Engine.
The license upgrade cost are covered by the upgrade insurance that comes with your maintenance. ;-)
  • Version 8.x and older
    • These versions reached already end of life, so no Windows 10 support

FlexiCapture Engine

  • Version 9.x – not available
    • If you have software maintenance, ABBYY recommends to update to the latest FlexiCapture Engine
  • Version 8.x
    • These versions reached already end of life, so no Windows 10 support

Please note that ABBYY will not make any further compatibility tests for any toolkits that are older than the ones listed above.

If developers are going to deploy a custom application with an SDK release on Windows 10, ABBYY will not provide any technical support.

Windows Server 2016

Windows Server 2016 is expected to be released beginning of 2016.

ABBYY is planning to provide the official support in the next scheduled maintenance releases of FineReader Engine 11/10.5 and FlexiCapture Engine 11/10.5
